broadband-connection-to-internet-than-speed

The Internet has become the center of our lives. A very large percentage of the world today uses the internet regularly to get their day to day jobs done. One of the many ways to get access to the internet is to get a broadband connection. A broadband connection is a very good source of getting internet since you can get higher speeds from the cable and the connection is usually more stable than mobile networks. However, broadband internet is also more expensive than mobile internet plans. But a very important thing that you have to decide before you get a broadband connection is to choose the internet service provider you want to get it from.

Broadband Connection Internet Service Provider

One of the most important questions that you need to address before getting an internet service provider is how much they are going to cost you. If you think the pricing of the plan only depends on the speed that it is providing, then you are thinking wrong. Speed is one of the many factors which is considered. There is more to it and you need professional guidance when you are searching for an internet service provider. Let’s see what all you need to check before choosing a good internet service provider to get a broadband connection.

Types of Broadband Connection

Essentially, there are two types of broadband connection you can choose from. They are — Broadband service and High Availability Service. Talking about the first one, broadband service, you will get a considerate amount of speed, not too fast, but not to slow as well. Adding to this, the quality of service still remains a concern over the long-term. But the standard broadband service is quite affordable.

Talking about the high availability service, you get very high speeds compared to the standard broadband service. These connections include the use of cables and DSLs. These are also a little more expensive than the standard broadband internet connection. But there is another thing which plays a major role here and that is that high availability service has an uptime of 99.99%.

So if you are someone who requires internet all the time to conduct your business, then you should choose an internet service provider which can provide you with a high availability service. Fiber optic connections come under high availability connections.

Another thing is that you might not get a high availability service in every area of your city. It all depends on the number of customers that want the service. Many internet service providers check the demand for high availability service in different areas and then set up the infrastructure in those areas which have the highest demand.

So you need to consider the kind of internet service providers that are available in your area, the kind of speed they provide, and what is the uptime and downtime of the connection. There is more to a broadband connection that just speeds.

The fixed broadband providers witnessed a traffic growth in the range of 20% to 100% across India, Ericsson said in its Mobility Report. The report based on a survey conducted on over 1000 people across India indicates that 30% of the citizens plan on investing in “improved broadband” facilities at their homes. According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) data for the month of February, wired broadband penetration in India has dipped to 19.07 million as compared to 19.08 million in January. In recent days, multiple reports have suggested that the government of India is likely to slash the license fee on wired broadband per circle to Re 1 per year. India continues to register a decline in the fixed broadband subscription as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) data reveals that India now has 19.07 million subscribers as of February. The data released by Trai on Monday highlights the telecom subscription data as of February 29, 2020. According to previously released Trai data for the month of January, India had a registered wireline broadband subscriber base of 19.08 million. In December, Trai’s data revealed that India had 19.14 million wireline broadband subscribers.

BSNL Accounted for Major Decline in Wireline Broadband Subscription

The Trai data released on Monday highlights that state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) continued its position as the leading wireline service provider in India. BSNL accounted for 8.11 million wireline broadband subscribers as of February. However, the operator had 8.23 million wireline broadband subscribers as of January, 31. Similarly, BSNL had recorded a subscriber base of 8.39 million in December indicating that the operator lost over 2,80,000 subscribers in two months.

Bharti Airtel continued its position as the second largest fixed broadband service provider in India with a subscriber base of 2.45 million as of February. The operator had a registered wireline subscriber base 2.43 million in January and 2.42 million in December. The subscriber data reveals that the Airtel subscriber base increased by 30,000 in two in the wireline broadband segment with the majority of subscriber additions happening between January and February.

Atria Convergence Technologies maintained its position as the third largest wireline service provider in India with a subscriber base of 1.56 million. ACT Fibernet had a registered subscriber base of 1.54 million in January and 1.52 million in December.

JioFiber Continues to Maintain its Subscriber Base

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/bsnl-broadband-landline-institutional-buyers/280832/, Institutional Buyers Can Now Opt for Monthly BSNL Broadband and Landline Plans

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Saturday withdrew an order that required the institutional buyers to purchase annual tariff plans of BSNL broadband, landline and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connections. According to the earlier order issued on April 9, BSNL said that its services would be offered only to those institutional buyers who availed the annual tariff plans. The operator highlighted that the institutional buyers include central, state and private organizations. Crucially, BSNL said that the annual plan order was applicable only to the institutional buyers with the operator introducing no changes for the retail and individual users.

BSNL FTTH Providers Lost Subscribers

However, the order issued by BSNL in April received polarised response partly due to the inclusion of the FTTH services in the notification. BSNL said in April that the move was mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic that had resulted in reduced workforce.

“As you are aware that, due to ongoing lockdown due to spread of corona virus, there is very limited staff strength available in the field units,” P D Chirania, finance GM at BSNL, said in the notification in April. “There is a need to prioritize customer requests for telecom services.”

Vinay Bhatt, a Twitter user said that the BSNL order issued in April favored private players and highlighted that BSNL FTTH services are provided through cable operators.

“BSNL killing self business by restrictions of FTTH monthly plans to business/institutions. No one willing and not have enough money to pay 12 months rent in advance. Please withdraw these orders. FTTH service is provided by cable operator at his own expenses and manpower [sic],” Bhatt said in a tweet.

Additionally, Bhatt said that the cable operators are losing “valuable customers” as several institutions including those in the educational field are moving to private players due to restrictions imposed by BSNL.

BSNL Institutional Users Can Now Opt for Monthly Plans

BSNL on Saturday said that the order issued in April requiring the institutional buyers to opt for annual plans was being withdrawn due to “difficulty faced by circles.”

Further, the operator said that the order was withdrawn from all BSNL telecom circles.

The “35GB Per Day Plan CS227” enables users to browse up to 10 Mbps speeds till 35GB per day. BSNL enables users subscribed to the “50GB Per Day Plan CS262” to browse up to 10 Mbps speeds till 50GB per day.

The operator has capped the post FUP speeds to 512 Kbps on all the ADSL broadband plans. Further, BSNL enables users to make unlimited onnet calls with its ADSL broadband plans. The offnet calls are charged at Rs 1 per minute for those users on the ADSL plans priced at Rs 1000 and above and at Rs 1.2 per minute for those users under Rs 1000 ADSL plan.

Internet has become the centre of our lives. Without it, most of our daily activities would not be possible. One of the best ways to get access to the internet is with the help of a broadband connection. Broadband connections also come with unlimited internet plans. Getting an unlimited internet plan brings many advantages. You won’t have to worry about how much data is remaining in your plan or if the speed is going to drop anytime soon. With broadband unlimited internet plans, you can enjoy seamless internet connectivity. But the thing is, there are more than one internet service provider and more than one unlimited internet plan available in the market. So you should be very careful with the plan you choose. Here is how you can choose good broadband unlimited internet plans.

Identify the Kind of Broadband User You Are

To choose the best broadband unlimited internet plan for you, you need to understand the kind of internet user you are. Essentially, there are three types of broadband users. Let’s start with the first one.

1. Light Broadband User –

If you are someone who does not use broadband internet quite extensively for downloading/uploading or streaming high-quality content online, then you will be considered as a light broadband user. If you use the internet just for sending and receiving emails and scrolling through your social media feeds, then you can settle for a plan which is not too expensive or comes with heavy data perks.

2. Average Broadband User –

You will be considered as an average internet user when you know that you do a little of everything. If you watch high-resolution videos along with a little live streaming, coding, downloading, etc, then you are an average broadband internet user. Some of the unlimited broadband internet plans will make sense for you.

3. Heavy Broadband User –

If you download/upload high-quality content every day and live stream every day, then you are a heavy broadband internet user. It basically means you breathe off your internet. Slow internet speeds will not work for you. Additionally, if there are more people at your home who are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, then you need more internet as well. So you will be categorised in the heavy broadband user group.

Select the Right Plan Based Off Your Needs

Selecting the right plan is very necessary. Once you have understood the kind of Internet user you are, then you will only need to search for a plan which will suit your needs. Your internet needs depend on the kind of content you consume. If you are watching 4K or ultra-HD content every day, then you should search for a plan which can suit your needs. See the speed that you get with your unlimited internet plan. If your whole family uses it, then go for the plan with higher internet speeds.

Internet speed is as important as the availability of the internet in the first place. You might have an internet connection but it won’t be of any use if you don’t get good speed. There are many factors which affect your internet speed. At the core of those factors lies the kind of internet connection that you have. It is not the internet plan or your router or your firmware, but the kind of broadband connection that you have. Now broadband internet connections are of two types — fibre optic broadband and traditional broadband connection.

Broadband Connection

So the thing is, internet is nothing but data that is received by your computer from another computer with the help of wired connections. Internet has become the center of our lives. The two types of broadband connections are very different from each other. Fibre-optic broadband connections are much faster than the traditional ones. Let’s take a deeper look at the fibre optic broadband connection and traditional broadband connection.

Fibre Optic Broadband Connection vs Traditional Broadband Connection

Now fibre-optic broadband connections were very expensive at a time. You wouldn’t think of getting them for your normal home-usage. But that is not the case anymore. Fibre optic connections have become cheaper. With more demand and more coverage area, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have managed to bring the cost down and offer their customers fibre optic connections for a slightly more price than the traditional broadband connections.

The reason why fibre-optic broadband connection is faster than the traditional broadband connection is the technology each employs. The fibre optic cables are equipped with high-speed fibre cables whereas the traditional broadband connections send data through copper phone lines.

The traditional broadband connections are also known as ADSL connections. The ADSL broadband connections are not the best way to receive the internet if you need a very stable and high-speed internet. While it may suffice a small business, it won’t be able to meet the demand of heavy internet usage.

One of the best things about fibre optics broadband connection is that it offers up to 10 Gbps symmetrical speeds both for download and upload. Also, with fibre connections, you get a dedicated line which will solely focus on delivering you the best speed for your work. With a dedicated line, you won’t have to worry about latency or data processing. While at the same time, cable internet speeds drop down when there is a high demand for data transferring.

You should choose your internet service provider (ISP) very carefully. Be smart while choosing a plan as well. Every decision which you make contributes to the internet experience that you get.

PON stands for Passive Optical Networks. This kind of network was available in the mid-90s. The way technology has evolved and advanced since the mid-90s, tech of PON has matured as well. Now PON has become GPON. GPON stands for Gigabit Passive Optical Network. From the name itself you can make out that the network you get will be very fast. A fibre-optic broadband connection is used to create a point to multi-point network so users can access the all-fibre Ethernet end-point. Even at a greater distance, GPON transmits data at a very high speed and offers great bandwidth. Let’s take a look at all the benefit of a GPON network.

Benefits of a GPON Network

1. Higher Range – A conventional copper broadband connection (DSL connection) can transmit data over a range of 100 meters. But a GPON broadband connection can transmit data between 10-20 kilometres. But don’t worry, the speed doesn’t drop despite the higher distance. So ultimately, you can get higher speeds at higher distances making it a win-win for everyone.

2. Space-Saving Connection – One of the many benefits of getting a GPON network is that it lets you save ample of space. GPON fibre is a lot smaller and is a fraction of conventional copper cables. This ultimately results in lesser cabling in your building.

3. Stability and Future Proof – Usually, traditional Ethernet networks can get disrupted due to radio frequency interference. But With the optical fibre network, it is not a problem. At the same time, optical networks are future proof as well offering up to 1.6 Tb/s per fibre.

4. Security – Since GPON uses a closed circuit, it cannot be hijacked or tapped making it a very secure connection. So you can be relaxed about keeping your data encrypted and secure.

Download Speed and Upload Speed

In many cases of broadband connections, download speed is greater than the upload speed. Mostly, internet service providers set their default settings for your broadband connection in a way that your download speed is greater than your upload speed. It is nothing but normal to get 80% of promised upload speed to you. Sometimes, it is even lesser than that. The reason behind slow broadband speed is that when a lot many users use their broadband connections in the same area, the servers get busy uploading and downloading data for multiple users at the same time.

To get a symmetric internet speed both for downloading and uploading, you should get a fibre-optic broadband connection. Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) is the best fibre broadband connection that you can go for. It is advanced technology and has many advantages to it mentioned above.

Broadband or Dongle: Which One is Better?

This post first appeared on TelecomTalk Read more at: https://telecomtalk.info/broadband-dongle-differences-explained-india/281966/, Broadband or Dongle: Which One is Better?

High-speed internet is a necessity for most of the businesses and working from home people out there. Thus, most of us choose the broadband internet. Broadband internet uses a heavy transmission technique which enables/allows a lot of data and information to be transferred at once. There are different types of broadband networks present in the network, mainly two – DSL and Fibre connection. Then there is another way you can get the internet and that is through the help of Dongle. Dongles are a very handy medium of getting internet on your device. Let’s compare the two and see which one is better.

Speed

Now a dongle will use the standard internet network for getting data. Since the market has been saturated for 4G internet, people won’t really get a seamless data experience with dongles. On the other hand, broadband internet connection offers a much more seamless data experience as its network is not as congested as the dongle’s network. According to a speed test, it was found that average 4G download speed is 11.52 Mbps compared to a much higher average download speed of broadband connection which is 34.59 Mbps. So it is clear by the stark difference that the broadband connection is much better for getting a faster internet experience.

Mobility

Mobility is where 4G is much better. So dongle ultimately wins the race. Broadband connections only work for a fixed place. So you don’t have much flexibility in terms of carrying it with you. But a dongle’s 4G network is available in most of the places you visit. So if you are a person who travels a lot, then dongle is probably a good option to purchase.

Price

Price is a subjective thing for different situations. But simply put, if you are an individual looking to save money, dongles are a much better option for you. 4G network is much cheaper for an individual than a broadband plan. But if you are a family of four, then you should get a broadband connection setup. Because purchasing four different 4G plans for four different individuals will pile up on the total costs and then eventually it will become more expensive than the broadband plan.

Add-On Benefits

Now, this is something that varies. In certain cases, broadband networks come with better and more additional benefits than the 4G network plans. But sometimes getting a dongle brings more add-on benefits than the broadband plan you purchase. There are many factors such as the internet service provider that you are choosing or the area that you live in.

Verdict

So basically, if you can afford both, get both. Talking about which one is better, it all depends on your usage. So if you are someone who doesn’t travel a lot and need a high-speed internet connection, then probably go for a broadband connection. But if you need to save money and you are an individual who travels a lot, then you should ideally go for a dongle.
