Airtel V-Fiber and Hathway Broadband Compared Across Speeds, Pack Prices and More

Bharti Airtel has its broadband presence across several major cities in India. While Airtel is not as big broadband service provider like BSNL, it’s covering a lot of major cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai and so on. Hathway Broadband also has a strong foothold in several popular cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and a few more South Indian cities. Reliance JioFiber is now official and the prices will start from Rs 700 for the base 100 Mbps plan. Broadband companies have been working on increasing speeds to the customers alongside adding other benefits like OTT app subscriptions, extra data benefit on select plans and more. Airtel V-Fiber is a leader when it comes to additional content offerings, while Hathway leads the chart in providing affordable broadband plans. Read on to know which ISP has the upper hand right now.

Different Approaches to Pricing Broadband Plans

The major difference between the two broadband service providers is how they price their services. While Hathway Cable and Datacom goes for a predatory pricing technique, Airtel V-Fiber has a different approach. Hathway has decided to cut the prices of its broadband plans to make them more attractive and affordable. However, when it comes to Airtel, the company has decided to bundle lots of freebies with the plan to make it worth buying for the customer.

Hathway Broadband is Providing Affordable Plans

Also, Hathway Broadband has introduced a new plan for its subscribers in almost all the circles that it operates in and this plan comes for Rs 399. This plan stands out from the rest of the plans being provided by other ISPs since it offers unlimited data at Rs 399 and that too for 50 Mbps. Subscribers have to pay the Rs 1,999 deposit upfront after which they have to pay a monthly rental of Rs 399 simply. What’s worth noting is that although the plan offers a sweet deal when it comes to speed and data, there are no added benefits in this plan.

Airtel V-Fiber Bundling Lots of Additional Benefits

As opposed to Hathway which is betting on affordability, in order to get the best benefits in Airtel V Fiber, the subscribers will have to spend at least Rs 1,099 per month to avail the benefits of the plan. Under the Airtel Thanks scheme, subscribers will be able to get subscriptions to services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, ZEE5 and Airtel TV Premium. The cheapest plan to offer these benefits includes the Rs 1,099 plan, which offers 300GB data at 100 Mbps. The users get three months of Netflix subscription and a yearly Amazon Prime subscription. The Airtel plans also come with a data carryover feature.

Hathway Providing Lifelong 50 Mbps Broadband Plan at Just Rs 349 per Month

In some cities, Hathway Broadband is providing a lifetime 50 Mbps broadband plan at just Rs 349 per month. Yes, Hathway has been providing a 50 Mbps broadband plan without any FUP limit in Hyderabad city at Rs 349 for a few months now. The Lifelong Binge offer from Hathway is currently available only in Hyderabad city, where Airtel V-Fiber has two unlimited FUP plans of Rs 699 and Rs 1,299 and a premium plan of Rs 1,599 with 300 Mbps speeds.

Which One to Go For?

In case you can wait for a few weeks to get a broadband connection, then it would be our suggestion to go for Reliance Jio Fiber, of which plans will be revealed on September 5. If you need to have a connection now and affordability is your priority, then Hathway Broadband would be the more obvious choice, but in case you would like to have lots of content subscription then Airtel V-Fiber has the most attractive plans.

Reliance JioFiber Maintains Lead Over Airtel and ACT Fibernet in Netflix ISP Speed Index During July

0

JioFiber has settled down at third position in Netflix ISP Speed Index during the month of July 2019. To recall, JioFiber lost its top spot to 7 Star Digital in June and moved to third place with the second spot being taken by Spectra. In June 2019, Reliance JioFiber achieved an average streaming speed of 3.49 Mbps and it has been increased to 3.50 Mbps in July 2019. Spectra, which is providing 1 Gbps broadband plans in some cities witnessed an increase in the speed of 0.02 Mbps which helped it retain its second spot during July. Even though JioFiber doesn’t have a significant subscriber base like Airtel or ACT Fibernet, it’s still above them. Once the company launches services commercially, it’ll be interesting to see the changes in the Netflix ISP Speed Index. Reliance Jio said that the commercial launch of JioFiber would happen from September 5, and the plans start from Rs 700.

Reliance JioFiber Secures Third Spot for Two Consecutive Months

Back at the start of 2019, Reliance Jio GigaFiber (now JioFiber) made its way to the top of Netflix ISP Speed Index beating the likes of Spectra, 7 Star Digital, Airtel and ACT Fibernet. It came as a surprise to many considering the limited amount of subscribers using the service right now. During the trial period, Reliance Jio offered 100 Mbps speeds with 1.1TB FUP limit as part of its Preview offer and it, of course, helped the ISP to reach the top spot.

During July 2019, Reliance JioFiber saw an increase in speeds, but Spectra was marginally better than the former in the said month. JioFiber achieved 3.50 Mbps speed, while 7 Star Digital on top position had 3.53 Mbps streaming speed. Airtel and ACT Fibernet are on fourth and fifth positions with 3.40 Mbps and 3.32 Mbps speeds respectively. Vodafone-owned You Broadband is sixth on the list with 3.17 Mbps speed, followed by D-VoiS, Hathway Broadband, Syscon Infoway and Excitel Broadband.

India’s leading broadband service provider with over 10 million subscribers under its belt, BSNL, is on 13th position with a poor average streaming speed of 2.08 Mbps. MTNL is on 14th position with 2.01 Mbps speed.

Reliance JioFiber Continues to Maintain Lead Over Airtel and ACT Fibernet

As you can see from the table, Reliance JioFiber is beating the likes of Airtel and ACT Fibernet when it comes to speeds. This could be largely due to the speeds offered by JioFiber. As mentioned above, JioFiber Preview Offer included only one plan with 100 Mbps speeds, whereas, Airtel and ACT Fibernet even providing broadband plans with 40 Mbps base speeds. Once the service commercially rolls out to the public, JioFiber will offer speeds ranging from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps, and the company is expected to provide affordable broadband plans as well. It all depends on the speeds and user base; BSNL has over 10 million customers in the broadband segment, but the company is on 13th position which is underwhelming. But most of the BSNL broadband customers would be on plans offering less 30 Mbps speeds and it could be the reason behind the poor performance.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has been doubling down on its broadband plans for quite some time now. BSNL initially launched the Amazon Prime benefit offer for the subscribers of its broadband plans who get a connection with a monthly rental of Rs 745 or more. But then, later, BSNL made a change to this offer and notified that subscribers with BSNL broadband plan of Rs 499 or below would also be able to get Amazon Prime benefit, albeit with a catch. While the Rs 745 broadband plans ship this offer, any broadband plan subscribed for 12 months is going to get BSNL broadband subscribers the Amazon Prime benefit.

How to Get Amazon Prime Membership on BSNL Broadband Plans Below Rs 499?

BSNL has introduced changes to its cashback scheme on broadband plans alongside adding new benefit in the form of Amazon Prime membership. BSNL is offering up to 25% cashback on its broadband plans and the plans include DSL, Bharat Fiber and BBoWiFi. Existing or new BSNL customers choosing broadband plans below Rs 900 (including the ones priced below Rs 499) are eligible for the cashback offer and Amazon Prime membership.

BSNL is providing 15% cashback on broadband plans priced below Rs 499; 20% cashback on broadband plans priced between Rs 499 and Rs 900 and 25% cashback on Rs 900 and above broadband plans. That said, customers have to choose the same plan for 12 months (one year) to be eligible for the cashback offer. And if a customer chooses the plans in the price range mentioned above, BSNL will be offering them one-year of Amazon Prime membership for free. So if a BSNL customer chooses a yearly broadband plan, the company will provide up to 25% of cashback and Rs 999 worth of Amazon Prime subscription for free. For the unaware, Amazon Prime membership benefits include free access to Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Music, faster product shipping and early access to any sales on Amazon.in.

bsnl-amazon-prime-plan-details

BSNL is also providing cashback on annual landline plans (without broadband data). The BSNL landline plans of any denomination will offer users 15% cashback if a customer chooses it for one year, but do make a note that there won’t be any Amazon Prime membership on offer with landline plans.

BSNL Revised Broadband Plans Recently to Gear Up for Jio GigaFiber

In other news, BSNL has recently revised its broadband plans to gear up for the launch of Reliance Jio GigaFiber which is expected to happen in the next couple of months. BSNL has revised its Rs 777 Bharat Fiber plan and increased the price to Rs 849 alongside increasing the data benefit to 600GB. The plan also offers a user landline calling as well. Furthermore, even if a customer chooses the plan for one month, BSNL will provide them with Amazon Prime membership for free. The company also revised the Rs 3,999 broadband plan and increased the price to Rs 4,499.

Hathway Starts Providing 100 Mbps Broadband Plan With 1TB FUP at Rs 699

Hathway Broadband, which has operations across 20 popular cities of India, has started offering high-speed 100 Mbps broadband in Kolkata and other cities at just Rs 699 per month. Additionally, the 150 Mbps broadband plan from the company with the same FUP limit is also available for Rs 1,499 per month. Hathway has made these changes recently in some cities. Already, Hathway Broadband is running an attractive offer like Lifelong Binge in some towns under which a Hathway user can avail 50 Mbps lifetime broadband plan without any FUP limit at Rs 399 per month. Right now, the 100 Mbps broadband plan at Rs 699 is available only in select cities where Hathway is operating. In cities like Chennai, Hathway’s 100 Mbps broadband plan costs Rs 949 per month, and in the same city, the ISP has a high-speed 300 Mbps plan with 2TB FUP and charges of Rs 9,999 for six months.

Hathway Slashes Broadband Plan Prices in Several Cities

Hathway Broadband is a known name in the wired-broadband industry as it provides attractive offers to the customers. In a new move, the company has reduced the prices of its high-speed plans like 100 Mbps, 150 Mbps, 200 Mbps and so on by a decent margin. In Kolkata, the 100 Mbps broadband plan from Hathway costs just Rs 699 per month and it comes with 1000GB or 1TB FUP limit per month. However, the only catch is that subscribers will have to choose the 100 Mbps plan for three months and it costs them Rs 2,097. Also, the plan comes with Hathway Playbox and provides after FUP speeds of 3 Mbps. The same 100 Mbps plan is also available for six and 12 months subscription at Rs 4,194 and Rs 8,388 respectively. That said, taxes and installation charges will be added on top of the charges mentioned above.

Likewise, there are other broadband plans like 150 Mbps and 200 Mbps priced at Rs 4,497 and Rs 5,997 for three months, which turns to monthly charges of Rs 1,499 and Rs 1,999 respectively. These charges for 150 Mbps and 200 Mbps plans are reasonable, but the 100 Mbps plan is probably the best one you should get in Kolkata right now. And the best part is these broadband plans ship with Hathway Playbox as well.

ACT Fibernet vs Hathway Broadband: Which ISP Has the Best 100 Mbps Plan?

Right now, ACT Fibernet is yet to launch operations in Kolkata city, but we can consider other city plans for the comparison. In Hyderabad, ACT Fibernet is providing a 100 Mbps broadband plan with 750GB of FUP limit at Rs 1,050 per month. In the same Hyderabad city, Hathway Broadband is offering a 100 Mbps broadband plan at Rs 599 per month. If a customer chooses the plan for three months, they’ll be eligible for Hathway Playbox Android TV box as well. ACT Fibernet also has its ACT Stream TV 4K Android TV box, but the customers will have to pay Rs 1,500 refundable charges to the company to avail the box.

Hathway Playbox Android TV Box Now Ships With Rs 2,500 Worth of OTT App Subscriptions for Free

Hathway Broadband announced its first-ever Hathway Playbox Android TV-based box last year. Besides launching the box, Hathway did not reveal any details of how its subscribers can get the box for using it. Earlier this year, we reported that Hathway Playbox is available for users in select cities with long-term broadband plans. Hathway Playbox is now shipping with Rs 2,500 worth of OTT app subscriptions for free. Hathway customers can avail the Playbox Android TV box for free by choosing a minimum of 100 Mbps broadband plan for two months, as we mentioned in the past. New Hathway Playbox users will be eligible for free OTT service subscriptions like Netflix, Sun NXT, ZEE5, Yupp TV and so on.

Hathway Playbox Users Will Get 3 Months of Netflix for Free

New Hathway Playbox users can redeem three months of Netflix subscription for free. Alongside Netflix, Hathway is also providing one year of Sun NXT subscription and two months of ZEE5 and Yupp TV subscriptions. Furthermore, the Playbox also comes pre-installed with VOOT and YouTube apps as well. It also allows users to install apps via the Google Play Store since it runs Android TV platform.

All these subscriptions combined will cost Rs 2,500 to the subscribers if they choose them without Hathway Playbox. Alongside providing free Hathway Playbox to its subscribers, the Internet Service Provider is also offering free OTT service subscriptions to lure them. As mentioned above, the Hathway Playbox can be availed with a minimum of 100 Mbps broadband plans and the box can be connected to your Television via HDMI port.

Hathway Broadband Users Can Also Get the Playbox at Rs 899

If a Hathway Broadband subscriber decides not to opt for the long-term broadband plan, then the company has another offer going on as well. Customers on a minimum of 100 Mbps broadband plan from Hathway can avail the Hathway Playbox by paying Rs 899 and the company will refund the entire amount at the time of returning the Playbox. This scheme is pretty much similar to what ACT Fibernet’s Stream TV 4K device; ACT Fibernet is charging Rs 1,500 as the refundable amount from the subscribers and providing free ACT Stream TV 4K Android TV box to them.

Hathway has some of the best broadband plans in the market right now. Yesterday, the ISP has slashed its high-speed broadband plan prices in some cities. Hathway’s 100 Mbps broadband plan in Kolkata now comes at just Rs 699 per month, which is on-par with what JioFiber is promising. Hathway’s other broadband plans of 150 Mbps and 200 Mbps are available at Rs 1,499 and Rs 1,999 per month. Users choosing these plans can also get the Hathway Playbox for free without any additional charges, but the company will take it back after a certain period from the consumers. Sadly, Hathway Playbox does not ship with any Live TV service like ACT Stream TV 4K, instead, it comes with Yupp TV app pre-installed which allows users to watch some popular Live TV channels out there.

Asianet Offering 200 Mbps Broadband Plan at Rs 499 Effectively

Asianet Broadband, one of the popular Internet Service Providers in Kerala, is now providing a 200 Mbps broadband plan at an effective price of Rs 499 per month. Asianet is providing three Entry plans of Rs 1,499, Rs 2,499 and Rs 2,999, and they all ship with 200 Mbps speeds. These Entry broadband plans from Asianet are long-term plans valid for two, four and six months. The Rs 2,999 plan offers 200 Mbps speeds for six months along with an overall FUP limit of 1200GB, thus resulting in a 200GB monthly limit. The FUP limit is undoubtedly on the lower side, but on the brighter side, the company is providing after FUP unlimited data at 2 Mbps speeds. Even if you complete your monthly limit in 15 days, you can browse the web at 2 Mbps for the rest of the month till the FUP recovers.

Asianet Entry Broadband Plans Ship With 200 Mbps Speeds

Aforesaid, Asianet’s Entry broadband plans are for the users looking for a new broadband connection. The Entry broadband plans in the company’s portfolio include Rs 1,499, Rs 2,499 and Rs 2,999. Before JioFiber announcement, the company offered Rs 1,499, Rs 1,999 and Rs 2,499 under the same Entry range of plans. However, with JioFiber now official and the plans set to disrupt the market, Asianet has made some changes to its broadband plans as well. By far, Asianet is providing the cheapest 200 Mbps broadband plan in the country, but the FUP limit is on the lower side, nevertheless.

The revised Entry range of broadband plans from Asianet ship with 200 Mbps speeds, after FUP 2 Mbps speeds and long-validity. Starting with the Rs 1,499 Entry plan, it provides a user 1000GB of FUP limit for two months or 60 days, which further divides to 500GB per month. Before the revision, the same Rs 1,499 Entry plan offered 500GB FUP limit, translating to 250GB per month.

The other Entry broadband plans are Rs 2,499 and Rs 2,999. The Rs 2,499 Entry plan ships with 300GB FUP limit every month for four months, totalling 1200GB limit. The Rs 2,999 offers 1200GB of FUP limit for six months, thus resulting in a 200 Mbps broadband plan with 200GB FUP every month at Rs 499.

Asianet also says that the Entry plans do ship with free Cable TV service, of which the details are unknown at the moment. We’re expecting the company to release more details about this combo offer in the coming days.

As mentioned, all the Entry broadband plans from Asianet come with after FUP 2 Mbps speeds and GST will be added on top of the prices mentioned above. Sadly, Asianet’s Entry broadband plans are available only in long-term options and not in monthly options. Customers opting these plans will also get free Fiber Modem.

Asianet Also Offering 100 Mbps Broadband Plan at Rs 699 per Month

Just a couple of days ago, we reported that Hathway Broadband has started offering a 100 Mbps broadband plan with 1TB FUP limit at just Rs 699 per month. And now, Asianet Broadband has started doing the same, although the company has a very poor FUP limit of 100GB, which doesn’t even do justice to the speeds offered by the company. The Rs 699 Unlimited broadband plan from Asianet offers 100 Mbps speeds with 100GB FUP limit, whereas the Rs 725 plan ships with 100 Mbps speeds and 400GB monthly FUP limit. That said, Asianet’s Rs 725 Unlimited broadband is a better option over the Rs 699 plan.

The company also has other 200 Mbps Ultra broadband plans priced at Rs 999, Rs 1,299 and Rs 1,499, providing 600GB, 800GB and 1000GB FUP limit every month. All in all, Asianet is providing just 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps broadband plans to the customers and removed the low-speed plans from its portfolio to counter JioFiber.

Airtel Broadband Premium Plan Now Bundling 1000GB Additional Data Valid for 6 Months

Airtel Broadband has brought down its offerings to just four plans last month and the company has now revamped the additional data offer. Earlier, all the Airtel Broadband plans used to ship with 1000GB or 1TB additional data, however, that has changed now as the company is offering additional data depending on the broadband plan you choose. Right now, Airtel has a total of four broadband plans- Airtel Basic priced at Rs 799, Airtel Entertainment priced at Rs 1,099, Airtel Premium that costs Rs 1,599 and Airtel VIP plan priced at Rs 1,999 for every month. The Rs 1,999 VIP plan provides unlimited data to the subscribers, so it doesn’t ship with any additional data offer. But the other three plans come with monthly FUP limit, which is the reason why Airtel is bundling extra data to the subscribers.

airtel-broadband-premium-plan

Airtel Premium Broadband Plan Provides a User 1000GB of Extra Data

After last month’s broadband plans revision, Airtel’s V-Fiber range of plans now starts at Rs 799 across almost all the cities where the company has operations. The Airtel Basic or Rs 799 plan offers a total of 200GB additional besides the 100GB data it ships with. The Airtel Entertainment or Rs 1,099 broadband plan offers a total of 500GB additional data, whereas the Rs 1,599 Airtel VIP plan add 1TB or 1000GB extra data to the customer’s account.

The extra data credited by the company will be valid for six months from the month of credit, post which it will lapse. This offer from Bharti Airtel is pretty much identical to that of ACT Fibernet which is providing a total of 1.5TB extra data with six months validity in select cities.

There’s no limit on when you can consume the extra data as it will be added to your FUP limit itself. For example, the Rs 1,599 VIP broadband plan from Airtel provides 300 Mbps speeds and 600GB FUP limit every month. However, as part of this offer, customers will get 1.6TB data while choosing the connection, post which 600GB data will be credited every month at the time of renewal.

Airtel Thanks Benefits Extended to Broadband Customers as Well

While Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country are slashing prices of their high-speed broadband plans to counter JioFiber’s commercial launch, Bharti Airtel is not all focusing on that aspect right now. Very recently, Airtel announced that some of the Airtel V-Fiber customers would be eligible for Airtel Thanks benefits. The eligible plans are Rs 1,099, Rs 1,599 and Rs 1,999, while the Rs 799 comes just with Airtel TV premium subscription.

airtel-broadband-plan

Airtel Thanks benefits include three months of Netflix subscription for free, one year of Amazon Prime subscription worth Rs 999, ZEE5 premium membership and Airtel TV Premium service.

Bharti Airtel Introduced Data Add-On Packs for Broadband Users

In other news, Airtel has now introduced some new data add-on packs starting at Rs 99 to its broadband users, allowing them to refill their account FUP limit. Airtel is calling these add-on plans as Airtel Smart Bytes. The Rs 99 plan offers 5GB of data, Rs 199 comes with 15GB data limit, followed by Rs 299 Smart Byte plan with 25GB of data limit. The premium Rs 1,499 Smart Byte pack from Airtel offers 200GB of data.

JioFiber Witnessed 120.1% Increase in Download Speeds Over Fixed Broadband During Last 12 Months: Ookla

Broadband speed measurement firm Ookla on Thursday said it has found Bharti Airtel to be the fastest mobile broadband network, while speed on Reliance Jio network was the slowest in July. The report, compiled based on Speedtest Intelligence data collected by Ookla between August 2018 and July 2019, shows mobile broadband speed on the Vodafone Idea network has gradually improved. “Speedtest results show that mobile download speeds in India improved on average for all the top mobile operators throughout August 2018 – July 2019, with Airtel holding the title of fastest operator throughout these 12 months,” the report said. In the fixed broadband side of things, JioFiber is said to have witnessed the largest increase in mean download speeds at 120.1% among top providers during the same period.

Ookla Speed Test Results Doesn’t Match With Trai’s Recent Report

The report is in contrast to data published by telecom regulator Trai. The data compiled by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India shows Reliance Jio has consistently maintained the lead throughout the year in mobile broadband speed with more than double the speed of its nearest rival.

Ookla has measured the broadband performance of Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Reliance Jio in the study. According to the Speedtest Intelligence data, mobile download speeds for both Airtel and Jio started a decline after May 2019 and continued through July 2019.

Meanwhile, Vodafone saw a decline in mean mobile speed from November 2018 through January 2019, after which they recovered and showed a year-on-year improvement of 23.6%, according to the report.

“Mobile download speeds on Idea improved in every month except December 2018, for a year-over-year improvement of 51.2%. In comparison, Airtel’s download speed increased 7.7% during the same period and Jio’s download speed went up 10.8%,” the report said.

The speed chart in the report shows that data speed on Reliance Jio network declined after June and was taken over by data speed on the Idea network. Overall, the average mobile data download speed in India declined after May 2019, the report said.

JioFiber Witnesses Massive Improvement Over Other Providers

In the fixed-line segment, Ookla report found the highest increase in mean download speed on Jio network. “Jio saw the largest increase in mean download speed over fixed broadband among top providers during the past 12 months with a 120.1% increase. BSNL increased 74.2%, GTPL 32.1%, Airtel 23.8%, YOU Broadband 13.9%, and ACT Fibernet 12%,” the report said.

In the fixed broadband segment, India moved to 70th position with average download speeds of 30.74 Mbps amongst all providers and impressive 27.80 Mbps upload speeds. The data collected by Ookla is also during July 2018 and July 2019. For the unaware, Reliance Jio announced its FTTH broadband segment back in July 2018 itself and the trial runs began in August 2018.

With JioFiber all set to commercially launch on September 5, we’re expecting the fixed-line broadband speeds in India to rise even more, unlike the mobile broadband speeds. Almost all the broadband service providers in the country are now providing affordable 100 Mbps plans to lure more users on board. Reliance Jio confirmed that its JioFiber broadband plans with 100 Mbps base speed will start at around Rs 700. All the plans of JioFiber will be officially revealed on September 5.

BSNL will offer 15% cashback on broadband plans up to Rs 499, 20% cashback on plans between Rs 499 and Rs 900, and 25% cashback on broadband plans of Rs 900 and above. That said, when it comes to content offerings, no other Internet Service Provider in this country can beat Bharti Airtel. However, JioFiber is also said to come with some OTT service subscriptions, of which the details will be revealed on September 5.

With the entry of JioFiber, the Indian broadband sector is likely to get a major revamp. Reliance Jio promised that its high-speed 100 Mbps broadband plans will start at Rs 700 and there will be annual broadband plans as well. However, other broadband operators in the country are not allowing JioFiber to settle down. Hathway Broadband recently revised its offerings in select cities and started providing a 100 Mbps broadband plan with 1TB FUP at Rs 699. The same goes with Tata Sky as it now has affordable unlimited data plans without any FUP limit. Airtel V-Fiber is providing just four broadband plans to the customers and one of the plan ships with unlimited data benefit. Likewise, You Broadband is another ISP which is providing broadband plans without any FUP limit to the customers in multiple cities.

Airtel Broadband Unlimited Plans

The Sunil Bharti Mittal led telecom operator is the second-largest wired broadband service provider in the country, and it is offering unlimited plans in select cities. In Delhi, Bharti Airtel is offering unlimited data on the Rs 1,999 plan which offers 100 Mbps speeds to the users along with free unlimited local and STD calls. The subscribers also enjoy free Netflix and Amazon Prime subscription with this plan as well. In Hyderabad circle, Airtel is offering unlimited data on Rs 1,299 and Rs 699 plan. Lastly, in Mumbai circle, Bharti Airtel is offering the same Rs 1,999 plan, which offers 100 Mbps speed and unlimited data to the subscribers. The customers will be able to get 7.5% and 15% discount on semi-annual and annual subscriptions of these plans respectively. Bharti Airtel is providing just four Airtel V-Fiber plans in most of the cities and the premium one offers 100 Mbps speeds without any FUP limit.

Hathway Broadband Unlimited Plans

Hathway has brought a unique offer for its customers in Hyderabad, where it is offering unlimited data plan to its subscribers. One of the noteworthy broadband service providers in the industry seems to be Hathway. Even with a growing competitive broadband sector, the company which majorly derives revenue from its DTH operations is shipping some attractive broadband plans. Earlier, Hathway was offering an offer which availed a 50 Mbps unlimited data broadband connection at only Rs 349 per month. But under a new offer, Hathway has introduced a ‘Lifelong Binge’ plan which ships 50 Mbps connection at Rs 399 per month. To recall, Hathway had introduced the “Life Set Hai” offer in Hyderabad only back in May. The service provider was shipping the 50 Mbps plan for Rs 449 per month, but under this offer the company was providing a discount of Rs 100 on the monthly rental meaning that subscribers could get the 50 Mbps unlimited data plan for Rs 349 only. But this time around, Hathway has made a little change for its “Lifelong Binge Offer” and is offering this plan for Rs 399 per month and the speed remains the same at 50 Mbps. On the offer page of Hathway official website, the company has mentioned that the subscriber will have to do a one-time non-refundable registration which will charge Rs 1,999, and after that, they will be able to subscribe to this offer.

Atria Convergence Technologies, or popularly known as ACT Fibernet has carved a name for itself in the Indian Home broadband sector. Despite working in an increasingly competitive industry, ACT has been able to woo the consumers because of its attractive pricing, unique offerings and innovative offerings. ACT has been keeping its vision towards the future and does not only want to remain a mere broadband service provider. We know this because this year, ACT Fibernet unveiled a new brand identity and launched a very interesting consumer product in the market – the ACT Stream TV 4K. This Android TV-based box seeks to bring OTT apps like Netflix, ZEE5 and other apps for the TV screens. Here is a review of ACT Stream TV 4K to help you decide whether it would be the perfect buy for you.

ACT Stream TV 4K Specifications

As the name of this device suggests, the ACT Stream TV comes with 4K support, and it makes it clear that even though a lot of people currently don’t have 4K TVs, ACT is still going ahead with a bet on premium segment customers. When it comes to specifications, the ACT Stream TV 4K packs the HiSilicon 3798M V200 chipset. Along with this, the ACT Stream TV 4K also has 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which should be sufficient in case you further want to download more applications.

The Stream TV 4K also has Widevine L1 certification, and it also supports the PlayReady DRM certification. For connectivity, the box extends support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi (802.11ac) as well as Bluetooth. For wired connectivity, the ACT Stream TV 4K also has two USB 3.0 slots a single Ethernet port, one HDMI port, AV out and even a microSD card slot. What the users will like is that the ACT Stream TV 4K also packs an HDMI cable, Ethernet cable and AV cable in the box itself. On the audio front, the console ensures sound quality courtesy of Dolby Audio.

ACT Stream TV 4K: Setup and Connectivity

Setting up your ACT Stream TV 4K would be a breeze. You can connect the console with your Ethernet cable or use the WiFi and connect the box with your TV using the HDMI cable. Lastly, you can pair the Bluetooth remote with the console to complete the setup. On firing up the ACT Stream TV 4K, you will see that the interface does not resemble the clean Android TV experience and it is for good. There is a tab-based UI which makes this cleaner and groups the latest, and top content on the home page. Many might consider that the UI of ACT Stream TV 4K resembles a bit to Amazon Fire TV. It is also worth noting that the console does not come with Amazon Prime Videos installed, but you can use the apk to sideload the app on the device. Another convenient feature that ACT Stream TV 4K allows is that you can easily subscribe to OTT services with a single click and bill them together with your ACT bill.

ACT Stream TV 4K also allows the users to access Live channels on the console. There are approximately 280 live channels on the platform which include Doordarshan channels and other popular channels like Republic, ABP and TV9 and other music channels like 9XM. Although there are quite a few channels on the console, you will feel that a lot of major channels that you are used to watching go amiss on the platform. ACT has, however, ensured that they are working to bring these channels onboard. We did find a few bugs onboard the device where the apps quit mid-way and the device also powered off. However, that was a rare scenario.

ACT Stream TV 4K: Experience

The experience of using the ACT Stream TV 4K with the Bluetooth is surely a smooth one. The easy-access buttons to Netflix, Google Play store, YouTube and Live TV are something that will come very handy while using the box. The Google Assistant support also helps the users in discovering new content and running basic searches. Further, the users can also connect gamepads, play content from USB and more.

When it comes to pricing too, ACT Stream TV 4K surely soars ahead of the competition. The console has been made available for Rs 4,499. In comparison, the Amazon Fire TV Stick will set back the users by Rs 5,599. As an introductory offer, ACT subscribers of select plans can get the ACT Stream TV 4K for a refundable security deposit of Rs 1,500.

Hathway Broadband or ACT Fibernet: Which One Offers Better Plans With Attractive Prices?

The broadband playing field in India has grown intensely competitive in the last few months majorly because of the imminent launch of the Reliance JioFiber FTTH service. However, the other broadband service providers are also leaving no stone unturned to make sure that new subscribers are lured towards their pricing, plans and offers. In this sector, two players which have been trying to attract new customers are ACT Fibernet and Hathway broadband. While ACT Fibernet has been known to provide high-speed broadband plans, Hathway is also a service provider which is offering unlimited data on many of its plans. Also, a lot of cities that ACT Fibernet is active in, also happen to be operational cities for Hathway as well. Therefore, some competition is bound to brew between the two companies. With this little comparison between the two service providers, you will be able to choose the plan suited to your home broadband needs.

ACT Fibernet vs Hathway Broadband: Plans Upto 30 Mbps

The first thing to note is that ACT Fibernet has very few plans when it comes to low speeds. For example, ACT Fibernet has the 15 Mbps plan offering 100GB data which it ships for Rs 685 per month. After this, ACT Fibernet directly has a 50 Mbps plan with 240GB data, 1500GB additional data for Rs 959 per month. Whereas, Hathway is focusing more on providing unlimited data to its subscribers in the low-speed range. Hathway is giving its subscribers options like 20 Mbps, 30 Mbps in addition to a 50 Mbps plan. For example, in Bangalore, which we are taking as the city of reference for both the companies, the 30 Mbps plan from ACT Fibernet, which provides unlimited data is available for Rs 999 per month.

ACT Fibernet vs Hathway Broadband: 50 Mbps Plans

This tells us that if you simply want to stream some content online and your internet needs majorly comprise of minimal browsing then, Hathway’s plan with unlimited data would be a better choice. On the other hand, Hathway’s 20 Mbps plan with 100GB data, is available for Rs 699 which competes directly with ACT Fibernet 15 Mbps plan of Rs 685. However, in the 50 Mbps plan, it’s a tough choice between Hathway and ACT Fibernet since Hathway offers 500GB data per month with 50 Mbps speed, 4 Mbps after-FUP speed and a Rs 999 monthly rental. Whereas, ACT Fibernet offers the 50 Mbps plan with 240GB monthly data, but with 1500GB additional data. The plan’s rental is Rs 959, and the after-FUP speed remains 512 Kbps.

ACT Fibernet vs Hathway Broadband: 100 Mbps and Above Plans

Venturing further into the 100 Mbps category, Hathway sweeps a clear win as the service provider is offering 100 Mbps plan with, 1000GB data per month and 5 Mbps after-FUP speed for a monthly rental of Rs 999, but with a minimum subscription period of 3 months. Comparatively, ACT Fibernet is offering the same speed with 400GB monthly data, after-FUP speed of 1 Mbps and a rental of Rs 1,159. However, the Hathway plan is available in select locations only. Similarly, the Hathway 150 Mbps plan with 1000GB data also starts at Rs 1,299 per month whereas, ACT Fibernet 150 Mbps plans begin at Rs 1,999.

While Tata Sky remains one of the largest DTH service provider in the country, it is also carving a name for itself in the broadband sector lately. The company has leveraged its extensive last-mile connectivity to reach broadband users in many circles now, and the service provider is also shipping some very attractive plans. The last few months have been very crucial for Tata Sky broadband as these have been the run-up to the launch of Reliance JioFiber, the FTTH service from Reliance Jio. To make its offering more attractive and to lure more and more subscribers, the service provider has been offering high-speed plans and select plans with unlimited data as well. However, Tata Sky broadband is now offering a new feature which is going to make its plans even more attractive to the subscribers.

Tata Sky Broadband Data Rollover Feature Details

The new feature that Tata Sky has introduced to its plans is the data rollover. On the official Tata Sky broadband website, the fixed GB plans from Tata Sky broadband have now been highlighted to come with data rollover. However, the thing to note is that the website does not inform the subscribers the limit allowed on data rollover and the reason why that is is that there is no limit to data rollover on Tata Sky broadband plans. To recall, data rollover is a feature which allows the subscribers to use leftover data on subsequent billing cycles.

For example, a Tata Sky subscriber is subscribed to the Rs 999 plan which offers 200GB data with 50 Mbps speed, and in a particular month, the subscriber is only able to use 150GB data, then the leftover 50GB data will be rolled over to the next billing cycle, or the next month. This means that subscribers will be able to use 50GB extra data on their monthly limit. In this case, for the second month, the user will be able to enjoy 200GB + 50GB, a total of 250GB data in that particular month.

Tata Sky 100 Mbps Unlimited Data Plans

It is also worth noting that currently, Tata Sky has operations in the metro cities of India, and it has expanded its reach massively to other cities like Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Bhopal and more. The service provider is also offering unlimited data plans, which could be a major attraction to interested subscribers. Some of the unlimited data plans from Tata Sky broadband also offer 100 Mbps speed. For example, in Mumbai, the Rs 1,599 per month plan ships 100 Mbps speed with unlimited data. Further on, there are also other plans with lower speeds, which include the Rs 1,249 plan shipping 50 Mbps speed and unlimited data and lastly, there is the more affordable plan of Rs 999 with 25 Mbps speed and unlimited data.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is betting a lot on its broadband plans as of now. The state-led telecom operator is the largest broadband service provider in the country, and currently, its position is being threatened by the imminent launch of Reliance JioFiber which is slated to be commercially launched tomorrow. But, to lure new customers and to convert its existing landline customers to broadband consumers, BSNL is shipping a trial broadband plan which offers 5GB daily data to the users. The unique thing about this plan is that it is valid only for the existing BSNL landline customers and till the end of this month only.

BSNL 5GB Free Trial Broadband Offer Details

To recall, the offer was first launched back in March, and it was to be available till March 31, 2019, for BSNL customers. But, now the offer has been reintroduced, and BSNL has said that it will be live until September 30, 2019, which is till the end of this month. Now, although the offer will be valid till September 30, BSNL has also noted that the benefits of the offer will be live for a month only. Under the standalone promotional offer of ‘5GB free trial’ existing BSNL landline customers who do not have a broadband connection will be able to experience BSNL broadband for no cost. Neither these customers will be required to make any upfront deposit, nor they will have to pay any monthly rental.

As part of this plan, the existing landline customers of BSNL will get 10 Mbps speed till 5GB data per day, and after the exhaustion of this limit, the speed of the connection will be throttled down to 1 Mbps. What’s interesting to note is that this offer for existing landline subscribers of BSNL has been introduced in all circles except Andaman and Nicobar. It is also crucial to note that with this plan, the user won’t enjoy any separate calling facility and the calling benefits that the subscribers will get will be according to the existing landline plan which they are subscribed to. BSNL has also noted that the security deposit and the installation charges will be waived off during this period.

BSNL Offering Amazon Prime Benefits and Cashback on Broadband Plans

To lure more customers, BSNL has also finally decided to offer Amazon Prime benefits to some of its broadband subscribers as well in a new move. The government led telco has made a change to its cashback scheme, after which it is providing 15% cashback on plans under Rs 499, 20% cashback on plans above Rs 499 and below Rs 900 and 25% cashback on plans above Rs 900. Also, if the subscribers get these plans for 12 months straight, then the subscribers will enjoy free Amazon Prime subscription for a year. In addition, BSNL broadband users on annual plans above Rs 399 will get free Amazon Prime membership worth Rs 999 for free. BSNL announced this move very recently.

BSNL Making Consumer-Centric Moves

The state-led telecom operator has been very active lately on all the fronts. On the business side of things, the telco is monetising its land assets and working on getting VRS for its employees to increase revenue and cut down on costs to ease its financial troubles. On the other hand, the telco is also making revisions to its prepaid plans to make them more attractive. The telco recently revised the Rs 1,699 prepaid plan to offer 455 days of validity instead of 365. Also, there is the Bumper Offer ongoing which ships 2.2GB additional daily data to the customers. These are some of the ways by which BSNL is attracting customers to its network.

$

Vodafone-owned You Broadband is now shipping a single month 100 Mbps broadband without any FUP limit at just Rs 944 per month which also includes taxes. With the launch of JioFiber, every Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the country is expected to reduce the prices of the plans to take the battle head-on with the Mukesh Ambani-owned telco. You Broadband has been providing internet services in 22 cities of India, but JioFiber is aiming to launch high-speed services in 1,600 towns. Yesterday, JioFiber unveiled its high-speed 100 Mbps plans starting at Rs 699, but there’s a FUP limit on every plan which isn’t going well the customers who expected a lot from JioFiber. The 100 Mbps plan which we mentioned here is available in Hyderabad right now. ACT Fibernet also has a similar 100 Mbps plan priced a Rs 1,050, but it comes with a FUP limit of 750GB per month, which makes You Broadband the winner. Like JioFiber, You Broadband is not providing landline calling service to the customers.

You Broadband 100 Mbps Plan Details

Speaking of the high-speed broadband plans available in the Hyderabad region from You Broadband. The company is offering 4 options for the 100 Mbps plan. The first pricing is for the 30-days validity broadband plan with 100 Mbps speed which is available for Rs 944. You Broadband Plans Offering Speeds More than 100 Mbps

You Broadband is also offering higher speed plans as well which ship 150 Mbps and 200 Mbps speed as well. JioFiber Plans Revealed But You Broadband Already Has Better Plans

In other news, JioFiber plans were revealed yesterday to much fanfare. However, the Mukesh Ambani-owned company disappointed many as the plans come with FUP limit and that too a measly one. JioFiber’s 100 Mbps base plan is priced at Rs 699 and it offers just 100GB of data along with 50GB of extra data valid for six months. Comparing to You Broadband’s 100 Mbps plan, the JioFiber’s Rs 849 plan that offers speeds of 100 Mbps comes with just 400GB of data limit which is underwhelming. However, on the brighter side, Jio is providing landline calling service to the customers.

BSNL confirmed the plan would provide 100 Mbps speeds till 33GB data per day, post which the speeds will be reduced to 4 Mbps.

BSNL Rs 1,999 Broadband Plan Launched: Complete Details

Diving into the newly launched plan from BSNL, it provides a user 100 Mbps speeds up to 33GB data every day. After the daily FUP, speeds will be reduced to 4 Mbps which is reasonable compared to the 1 Mbps after FUP speeds from JioFiber. Although BSNL is marketing the plan as an unlimited data plan, there’s a daily data cap of 33GB, similar to other Bharat Fiber broadband plans. For the unaware, BSNL revised its Bharat Fiber broadband plans earlier this year and converted them to daily data plans.

Besides the data, the Rs 1,999 Bharat Fiber plan also allows users to make voice calls to any network in the country through the company’s landline service. That being said, it’s a decent plan from BSNL, but the speeds are on the lower side. At least, the government-owned PSU should’ve provided 250 Mbps speeds. Nevertheless, the maximum speeds offered by BSNL is 100 Mbps even with the premium Rs 16,999 Bharat Fiber plan.

The Rs 1,999 broadband plan sits between the Rs 1,277 and Rs 2,499 broadband plans from the company.

Railwire, the Public sector undertaking company has now upgraded almost all its broadband plans’ FUP to 1TB, following the launch of JioFiber. Before the launch of JioFiber plans, every Internet Service Provider (ISP) expected that the Mukesh Ambani-owned company would disrupt the broadband segment, however, the JioFiber plans did not impress many, especially the FUP limit set on the plans below Rs 1,000. Railwire which has operations across 23 regions of India, has wide-range broadband plans starting at around Rs 400 and going all the way up to Rs 3,000. Also, Railwire has separate broadband plans for SMEs (Small and medium-sized enterprises) in select cities. In Kerala, Railwire has increased FUP limit on all of its broadband plans to 1TB, except for the base Rs 449 plan. Right now, the FUP limit has been increased only in Kerala, but we’re expecting the company to make the same changes in other cities as well.

Railwire 100 Mbps Broadband Plan With 1TB FUP Costs Rs 999

In Kerala, Railwire has a total of nine FUP plans and four unlimited FUP plans. Starting with the FUP plans, they start at Rs 449 and go all the way up to Rs 1,949 providing speeds up to 200 Mbps. The base Rs 449 Railwire plan offers 10 Mbps speeds and 30GB of data for a month, which is underwhelming. However, the best plans are yet to come. There’s a Rs 499 broadband plan from Railwire that offers the same 10 Mbps speeds, but a whopping 1TB of FUP per month, so there’s a no point in choosing the Rs 449 plan.

Moving on we have 20 Mbps, 40 Mbps, 50 Mbps, 75 Mbps, 100 Mbps plans priced at Rs 699, Rs 799, Rs 899, Rs 949 and Rs 999, respectively. All these plans ship with a FUP limit of 1TB or 1000GB per month. So Railwire is providing a 100 Mbps broadband plan with 1TB FUP limit at Rs 999 (excluding taxes). Lastly, there are 125 Mbps and 200 Mbps broadband plans priced at Rs 1,249 and Rs 1,999, offering 1.5TB and 2TB FUP limit, per month.

Railwire Also Offering Four Unlimited Data Plans

Besides the FUP plans in Kerala, Railwire is also providing four unlimited data plans to the customers in the state. The four plans in question are Rs 599 one offering 10 Mbps speeds, Rs 899 plan providing 15 Mbps speeds, Rs 1,399 plan delivering 20 Mbps speeds, and lastly, the Rs 2,499 plan that offers a user 50 Mbps speeds without any monthly limit. That said, these Unlimited Data plans from Railwire aren’t that impressive as the pricing is on the higher side. Maybe, the government-owned company will revise these plans in the coming days to match the competition.

Talking about Railwire, it currently has operations across 23 major regions in India. Railwire has its presence across Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Bihar, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh East, West Bengal, Delhi, Goa, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh West, North East 1 and North East 2.

Airtel 1 Gbps Broadband Plan Details and Benefits

As mentioned above, Airtel joins the list of broadband operators who’re providing 1 Gbps speeds in the country. ACT Fibernet was the first in the industry to bring Giga speeds to the country, followed by other ISPs like Spectra, Netplus, JioFiber, and now, Airtel joins the list. It has been a long way coming as the company is providing speeds of 100 Mbps in a majority of the circles; In a few circles, Airtel has a 300 Mbps broadband plan that’s priced at Rs 1,599. So now, users looking for an Airtel broadband connection can avail the 1 Gbps plan and it’s priced pretty well at Rs 3,999.

The Airtel V-Fiber Ultra broadband plan offers up to 1 Gbps speeds and unlimited data per month. Airtel also has an unlimited broadband plan of 100 Mbps priced at Rs 1,999, but it caps the data at 3.3TB every month. We’re expecting the same with the newly launched 1 Gbps plan from the company as it’s providing extra 1000GB data for new users.

So up to 1 Gbps speeds and 3.3TB every month for Rs 3,999 is not a bad deal at all. The extra data of 1000GB will be valid for a period of six months.

Additionally, the Airtel V-Fiber Ultra plan is part of Airtel Thanks programme, so you get all the OTT service subscriptions for free. Customers choosing this new plan from Airtel will receive one-year of free Amazon Prime subscription worth Rs 999, three months of free Netflix Basic plan worth Rs 1,500, monthly ZEE5 Premium subscription worth Rs 99 and Airtel Xstream app subscription free for one year.
