For this, the government led telco has been making consumer centric moves in the broadband sector like offering content services with its broadband plans, better speeds and more. However, BSNL has reintroduced one of its offers which it had first debuted at the start of the year as part of its efforts. The offer that we are talking about is the broadband trial offer and here are all the details that you need to know about ‘5GB free trial’.

BSNL 5GB Free Trial Broadband Offer Details

To recall, the offer was first launched back in March, and it was to be available till March 31, 2019, for BSNL customers. But, now the offer has been reintroduced, and BSNL has said that it will be live until July 31, 2019,, i.e. the end of this month. Under the standalone promotional offer of ‘5GB free trial’ existing BSNL landline customers who do not have a broadband connection will be able to experience BSNL broadband for no cost. Neither these customers will be required to make any upfront deposit, nor they will have to pay any monthly rental.

As part of this plan, the existing landline customers of BSNL will get 10 Mbps speed till 5GB data per day, and after the exhaustion of this limit, the speed of the connection will be throttled down to 1 Mbps. What’s interesting to note is that this offer for existing landline subscribers of BSNL has been introduced in all circles except Andaman and Nicobar. It is also crucial to note that with this plan, the user won’t enjoy any separate calling facility and the calling benefits that the subscribers will get will be according to the existing landline plan which they are subscribed to. The financial statement of the company has highlighted 38% growth in subscription revenue from its cable TV business in this period as compared to the corresponding quarter last year. Also, as compared to the Q4 2019, in the Q1 FY20, the CATV subscription revenue was 28% higher. The report highlighted that the subscription revenue for the quarter ending June 2019 was Rs 216.7 crore, whereas, in the corresponding quarter a year ago, it was Rs 157.4 crore. Lastly, the same figure was noted to be Rs 169.9 crore in the trailing last quarter of FY19.

Placement Revenue and CATV Business Growth

Speaking of the placement revenue, in the Q1 FY20 the numbers grew by 5% YoY to Rs 78.7 crore from the previous figure of Rs 75.2 crores and increased 38% QoQ from Rs 58.2 crore. On the other hand, activation revenue declined 13% YoY to Rs 15.23 crores from Rs 17.6 crore with a QoQ 3% decline from Rs 15.7 crore. In its reports, Hathway has not mentioned the split of CATV and Broadband business.

Taking an overview, the CATV business saw a growth of 24% y-o-y to Rs 315.97 crore in this period from the previous Rs 254.91 crore thus witnessing a growth of 27.1% q-o-q from Rs 248.51 crore. The operating profit reported by the company stood at Rs 2.82 crore from the CATV business in the quarter ending in June. This was in contrast as compared to an operating loss of Rs 31.16 crore in Q1 2019 and an operating loss of Rs 333.89 crore for Q4 2019.

Reasons for High Losses in Q4 FY19

To recall, the high losses in the last quarter of FY2019 were due to exceptional items which the company had listed in its financial sheets and these costs ran up to Rs 410.74 crore. Hathway had also highlighted that these exceptional costs included impairment of trade receivables, advances and exposure to certain entities including joint ventures, write down to property plants and equipment and expenses relating to equity infusion. Hathway had also remarked that these exceptional items had one-time expense and had a non-routine material impact on financial statements says the company. This financial report from the cable TV service provider is also crucial because it is the first full quarter after the implementation of the new Trai tariff regime.

Hathway’s Financials from Broadband Business POV

Also, speaking of Hathway’s broadband business, which is now the fourth largest in the country, the company saw YoY revenue growth of 3.1% and a QoQ growth of 1%. In the Q1 2020, Q1 2019 and the trailing quarter, Hathway reported Rs 133.81 crore, Rs 129.8 crore and Rs 132.43 crore as broadband revenue respectively. Also, less than half the operating profit of Hathway came from its broadband business, and it was pegged at Rs 9.14 crore for Q1 2020 as compared to an operating profit of Rs 19.89 crore for Q1 2019. In contrast, Hathway had reported a loss of Rs 18.11 crore in the broadband business in the trailing quarter.

Hathway has also remarked that it has deployed 60 lakh set-top boxes and claims to have amassed 8.4 lakh broadband internet subscriber base at the end of the quarter under review. However, even with data consumption going up, the broadband ARPU has declined in Q1 2020 to Rs 650 in Q1 2020 from Rs 690 in Q1 2019 and from Rs 662 in Q4 2019.

As for the operating revenue, Hathway witnessed a growth of 16.9% YoY to Rs 449.78 crore from Rs 384.71 crore with an 18% QoQ growth from Rs 381.04 crore. The company’s EBITDA saw an increase of 15% YoY in its investor presentation for Q1 2020 to Rs 104.38 crore (23.2% margin) from Rs 90.5 crore (23.5% margin) and growth of 37% QoQ from Rs 76.1 crore (20% margin).

Some other reports have also revealed that the company will be launching the plans which it will offer for Reliance Jio GigaFiber. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, the state-led telecom operator, is the largest broadband service provider of the country. However, now that Reliance Jio GigaFiber is only days ahead of the public launch, there is a chance that a lot of subscribers of BSNL are going to migrate to the new service provider. With that being said, BSNL is still not giving up on its customers and is offering some very unique freebies with its plans to lure more and more new customers. To hold on to its subscribers and to make sure that it customers stay on its network, the telco is bundling various free services which make its plans unique. So, what are the freebies and offers which make BSNL broadband plans stand out from the rest?

Amazon Prime Offering and Cashback

For a long time, BSNL remained far away from content-based offering on its broadband plans. While other service providers like Bharti Airtel were providing an Amazon Prime Video connection via Amazon Prime membership, BSNL was not offering it. But, lately, BSNL has started offering Amazon Prime membership to its customers. As per the details issued by BSNL, the subscribers who are on a broadband plan priced at Rs 900 or more will enjoy Amazon Prime membership for an entire year, and along with this, they are also going to be eligible for a 25% cashback. Also, BSNL broadband plans below Rs 499 will come with 15% cashback, and the plans between Rs 499 and Rs 900 will ship with 20% cashback.

Complimentary Hotstar Premium Subscription

If not Amazon Prime subscription, there plans with BSNL which ship with a Hotstar subscription instead of Amazon Prime. Just like Amazon Prime Video, a Hotstar subscription will allow the subscribers to watch various movies and TV shows on their smartphone or other devices. BSNL has detailed that it will be offering a complimentary Hotstar subscription with its Superstar 300 plan which comes for Rs 749. Just like the name suggests, this plan will come with 300GB data per month.

Daily Data Broadband Plans

This is something that sets BSNL broadband plans truly apart from the other broadband plans out there. Although it is also a point which has seen certain critical comments from the users, still, BSNL remains one of the rare service providers who are offering daily data limit on their broadband plans. As such, you will easily find plans in BSNL broadband portfolio which come with 40GB per day, 55GB per day, 80GB per day and more daily data limit.

Long Term Discount

On its broadband plan offers, BSNL is also offering a long term discount. For example, if you were to subscribe to the 600GB CUL plan, then you will have to pay a monthly rental of Rs 849, but for a subscription of 12 months, you won’t be required to pay 12x of the price, instead you would only have to pay 10x of the price, i.e. Rs 8490 only. This way, on a long term annual subscription, the subscribers will be able to get two months of free service. Similarly, on paying for 19 months of service, the BSNL broadband customers will get 5 months of free service.

Reliance Jio Likely to Announce 3 Broadband Packs of Jio GigaFiber and the Prices May Not Be Competitive

Reliance Jio is all over the news again as the date much-awaited Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries closing in. Last year, at the AGM 2018, Reliance Industries announced Jio GigaFiber high-speed broadband services, but only on a trial basis. However, at this year’s AGM, Mukesh Ambani is expected to announce the commercial launch of Jio GigaFiber service and its tariff plans. The brokerage firm, Bank of America- Merrill Lynch, expects that Reliance Industries might introduce three offerings under the GigaFiber service providing standard broadband, broadband+TV services and full-fledged broadband+TV+IoT devices. At the same time, Reliance Jio is also expected to announce landline service, which will come bundled with all the three packs mentioned above. Right now, Jio did not confirm any details of Reliance Jio GigaFiber commercial launch, but the company did confirm that the trials are currently in final stages hinting at an imminent launch. In addition, the brokerage firm says Reliance Jio GigaFiber services may not be as cheap as consumers are expecting, but with bundled offerings, they will attract a lot of users.

Reliance Jio to Offer Broadband, TV and IoT Devices Under One Branch

Reliance Jio GigaFiber is all about changing the home broadband segment in India as the company did with its 4G services. However, it’s not that easy for the company to achieve because of the human power it requires. According to Bank of America- Merrill Lynch brokerage firm, Reliance Jio has a lot in store for us on August 12.

“We expect a lot of new information on Jio’s pure fibre-based home broadband and enterprise business launches at RIL’s 42nd AGM, and see RIL looking to give visibility on a phased commercial launch timeline, and perhaps pricing as well of the fibre broadband services,” Bank of America- Merrill Lynch said in a note to clients, which was seen by ET Telecom.

Reliance Industries has been testing Jio GigaFiber in select cities even before the trial launch last year. According to the report, Jio GigaFiber will come in three packages- the first is a standard broadband connection with 100 Mbps speeds, the second one is broadband and TV bundled pack, while the third one offers broadband, TV and IoT devices which will allow users to control their lighting, kitchen appliances and locking system.

Reliance Jio GigaFiber Packs May Not Be Priced Aggressively

Bank of America- Merrill Lynch also expects that Reliance Jio GigaFiber packs may not be priced competitively compared to other Internet Service Providers in the country. However, Jio will be bringing all broadband, TV and home security solutions together, which will add value to the pricing. It will be interesting to see how Jio prices the standard broadband plans. Right now, the company is providing a single plan of 100 Mbps to all the customers. We haven’t heard from any customers till now that Jio is providing a 1 Gbps plan to them, so the initial offerings from Jio might be limited to just 100 Mbps. That being said, we might see a single 100 Mbps plan with unlimited FUP in the company’s broadband portfolio.

Reliance Jio Likely to Offer Landline Service as Well

Well, here’s another news coming in. Bank of America- Merrill Lynch also expects that Jio might introduce its landline service alongside the Jio GigaFiber commercial launch. The Jio GigaFiber Preview offer did not include any landline offering to the customers, so it’s a completely new service from the company.

With Jio GigaFiber, the company is aiming to provide high-speed services to 50 million homes in the next 18 months. However, Bank of America- Merrill Lynch says it’s a tough milestone to achieve and it will take at least 3-5 years for the company to achieve the number.

If an ACT Fibernet customer on any of the eligible plan chooses the ACT Stream TV 4K box, the company will provide it at Rs 1,500 which is completely refundable. But there are some catches to this offer. If the customer returns the box within six months with all the accessories, then ACT Fibernet will credit the Rs 1,500 amount to the customer’s account. If a customer chooses it to return after six months, then their account will be credited with Rs 250. That being said, for ACT Fibernet customers, it’s a good deal, especially if you watch a lot of content has doesn’t have a Smart TV in your home.

It runs on Android 9 Pie and has 5 Ghz Wi-Fi support as well. The remote also comes with voice assistant support.

Bharti Airtel has been relentless as of late in its efforts to amass more and more subscribers. As we are coming closer to the launch of Reliance Jio GigaFiber, Bharti Airtel has also ramped up its operations and is offering massive benefits to the subscribers so that it can lure customers. Also, Bharti Airtel seems to be the only telecom operator that is putting up an equal fight with Reliance Jio on all fronts, and some would even consider that the Sunil Bharti Mittal led telco is even doing a better job at offering the best to the consumers. The same can be considered the case when it comes to the broadband segment. The telecom operator is offering quite a lot of benefits bundled with its Airtel V-Fiber broadband plans.

Airtel Thanks Benefits: Netflix, Amazon Prime and More

In most of its circles, Bharti Airtel is offering its broadband plans which start at Rs 799. Now while the Rs 799 plan is the cheapest plan in the portfolio and it offers 40 Mbps speed with 100GB data per month and free unlimited calling, what it does not offer is the Airtel Thanks benefits thus putting it out of bounds for our today’s discussion. The plans that we are listing here come with the Airtel Thanks benefits, and as part of this, the Airtel broadband subscribers will be able to get one year free Amazon Prime membership, 3-months of Netflix subscription ZEE5 Premium & Airtel TV Premium Subscriptions. So, if Netflix is your cup of tea and you would like to access Netflix free of cost for three months and Amazon Prime Video, Music and other services for the rest of the year, then here are the plans you should consider. The rest of the plans in Airtel’s broadband portfolio are Rs 1,099, Rs 1,599 and Rs 1,999. In some cities, the broadband plans are limited to just three.

Airtel Broadband Plans Shipping With Free Netflix Subscription

The Rs 1,099 broadband plan is the one which starts offering the Airtel Thanks benefits. So if you are planning on enjoying the Airtel Thanks benefits, then this is the plan you should opt for. Under this plan, the subscribers will enjoy up to 100 Mbps speed, 300GB data, 500GB bonus data valid for 6 months and free unlimited calling. The plan also comes with data rollover facility so you can use unused data next month.

The next plan in the portfolio which offers Airtel Thanks benefit to the subscribers is the Rs 1,599 plan which offers up to 300 Mbps speed, 600GB monthly data and 1000GB bonus data valid for 6 months. This plan also comes with data rollover facility and offer all the bundled benefits of Netflix, Amazon Prime, ZEE5 and Airtel TV Premium.

The highest plan in the Airtel Broadband portfolio is the Rs 1,999 plan which offers unlimited data to the subscribers at 100 Mbps speed, and this one also bundles the Airtel Thanks benefits.

While all these plans are available in most major cities where Airtel broadband is providing services like Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bangalore and others, things are a little different in Hyderabad where Airtel offers a different plan.

Rs 1,299 Plan in Hyderabad

The plan that the subscribers of Airtel in Hyderabad can access is the Rs 1,299 plan, which also comes with Airtel Thanks benefit, and this one offers unlimited data 100 Mbps and free unlimited calling as well. Hence the benefits of this plan are the same as that of Rs 1,999 plan in the other regions.

best high speed plans

Airtel Broadband 100 Mbps Plans

Airtel starts offering 100 Mbps plans at the price of Rs 1,099. Coincidentally, this is also the range above which Airtel offers its Airtel Thanks benefits. The plan below this range comes for Rs 799, and it does not ship with any additional benefit and only offers 40 Mbps speed. Whereas, the higher-priced plan by Airtel offers 100 Mbps speed 300GB data combined with 500GB extra data for six months and Airtel Thanks benefit including Netflix for three months, Amazon Prime subscription for a year and Airtel TV and ZEE5 premium subscription.

The Rs 1,599 plan by Airtel offers triple-speed than the previous plan, as in the plan bundles 300 Mbps speed with 600GB data with 1000GB bonus data valid for six months. There is also the data rollover feature applicable on both the 100 Mbps and 300 Mbps plans. This plan also ships with Airtel Thanks benefit. Lastly, there is the Rs 1,999 plan by Airtel which offers unlimited data to the subscribers, and this one also comes with Airtel Thanks benefit.

Tata Sky Broadband 100 Mbps Plans

When it comes to Tata Sky, the service provider has limited options related to high-speed plans like 100 Mbps. In the Bangalore region, the operator is offering only one unlimited 100 Mbps plan for Rs 2,400, which is expensive as compared to Airtel. In the same circle, Tata Sky does not have a fixed GB 100 Mbps broadband plan. However, in Delhi, Tata Sky is offering the 100 Mbps unlimited data plan for Rs 1,599 a month, but it does not come with any additional benefit. In case you are in this region and want to get a high-speed unlimited data connection, Tata Sky could be your bet if the Airtel Thanks benefit is something you can look over.

ACT Fibernet 100 Mbps Plans

ACT Fibernet has the most options when it comes to high-speed plans as the service provider is one of the top broadband companies in India. There is the ACT Storm plan offering 100 Mbps speed, 400GB data, 1500GB bonus data available for Rs 1,159, ACT Lightning plan offering 125 Mbps speed, 550GB data, 1500GB bonus data available for Rs 1,399, ACT Incredible plan offering 150 Mbps speed, 875 GB data, 1500 GB bonus data available for Rs 1,999.

Further on, the ACT Essential plan with 150 Mbps, 1200GB data and 1500GB bonus data is available for Rs 2,999. More plans with the same speed and 1650GB data and 2200GB data are available for Rs 3,999 and Rs 4,999 per month respectively. Lastly, there is also the 1 Gbps plan with 2500GB data, which is priced at Rs 5,999.

Which One to Choose from the Above?

Summarising, if you are aiming for a simple unlimited data plan with 100 Mbps speed, then Tata Sky would be the most economical option given that it is available in your region and it priced competitively since Tata Sky has different pricing for different regions. In case the benefits like Netflix and Amazon Prime interest you, then Airtel’s Rs 1,999 plan would be the best choice to go with. Alternatively, if you can make do with 100 Mbps plan and limited data, then nothing would beat ACT Fibernet’s Rs 1,259 plan.

Reliance Jio has made numerous announcements at its parent company’s 42nd Annual General Meeting today. Alongside renaming the Jio GigaFiber broadband service to JioFiber, the company also stated that the JioFiber plans would start from Rs 700 and they will go all the way up to Rs 10,000, covering every customer’ speed requirement. At the end of the JioFiber announcement, Mukesh Ambani said the company is coming up with a new ‘JioFiber Welcome Offer‘ which will succeed the JioGigaFiber Preview Offer that’s currently running. Under the JioFiber Welcome Offer, customers will be eligible for a free HD/4K Television Set alongside 4K Set-Top Boxes. However, Jio says that the offer is applicable only with the Jio Forever Annual broadband plans which the company will be introducing on September 5.

JioFiber Welcome Offer Details and Benefits

Reliance Jio has been running a JioGigaFiber Preview Offer since the last one year or so. Now, once the JioFiber service commercially launches on September 5, the company will introduce a new JioFiber Welcome Offer which will replace the JioFiber Preview Offer. At the moment, it’s confirmed that the JioFiber Welcome Offer will be applicable on annual Jio Forever broadband plans, but the company did not reveal whether the Welcome offer will be available on monthly plans or not. According to our sources, the JioFiber Welcome Offer will also provide customers with three months of free broadband service, and from the fourth month, Jio will start charging them based on the plan they choose.

Customers choosing Jio Forever Annual plans will be eligible for a 4K/HD Television set and a 4K Set-Top Box from the company. We believe that the Television range will depend on the Jio Forever plan you choose. Mukesh Ambani confirmed that Jio’s broadband plans would offer base speeds of 100 Mbps and they’ll go all the way up to 1 Gbps. So chances are the 1 Gbps Jio Forever Annual pans will offer a 4K Set-Top Box and 4K Television, while the low-end plans will provide an HD Television and maybe a standard Set-Top Box. Jio will reveal details on September 5 when the service commercially launches to the customers.

JioFiber Plans to Start from Rs 700 for 100 Mbps Speeds

Mukesh Ambani also announced that the JioFiber broadband plans would start from Rs 700 and the base speeds to be offered by the company will be 100 Mbps. JioFiber is the latest entry to the 1 Gbps service providers list which already has the likes of ACT Fibernet, Spectra and Netplus. The 1 Gbps broadband plan from Jio will be the costliest one and it will be interesting to see what other speeds the company will provide. Right now, Internet Service Providers like ACT Fibernet, Airtel V-Fiber, Spectra, Hathway and so on provides wide-range of speeds like 40 Mbps, 50 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 150 Mbps, 200 Mbps, 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps and 1 Gbps. Jio has officially confirmed ti will provide 1 Gbps and 100 Mbps speeds, but it did not reveal any other information related to the speeds. The official JioFiber plans will be announced on September 5 which is the third anniversary of Reliance Jio. Are you excited for JioFiber broadband plans? Let us know by commenting below.

BSNL Rs 1,199 Family Combo Plan Continues to Be a Unique Offering Even After JioFiber Launch

$

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has some interesting offerings under its belt and one of them is the Rs 1,199 Family Combo plan that offers both broadband and mobile network services to the customers. The BSNL BBG Combo ULD 1199 Family is a combo plan that ships with basic broadband plan benefit alongside mobile network services like free daily data and unlimited voice calling option. Reliance JioFiber broadband plans are now out and the company has confirmed they’ll start at Rs 799 for the basic plan with maybe just broadband offering. What’s interesting is that Jio did not announce any plans to offer 4G and JioFiber services with one plan like BSNL’s Rs 1,199 broadband plan. Reliance Jio said that the company’s JioFiber plans would ship with bundled Television and Broadband services, but it nowhere mentioned the availability of 4G services with a single plan, and here’s where the Rs 1,199 plan gains an advantage even though it ships with mediocre benefits.

BSNL Rs 1,199 Family Combo Plan is a Solution for All Services

In the United Kingdom, Vodafone provides three services under one plan- mobile network, broadband and landline. However, in India, only BSNL right now is providing such service to the customers. The Rs 1,199 Family Combo plan is an example of that. The BSNL Rs 1,199 Family Combo Plan offers a broadband plan with 10 Mbps speeds and 30GB FUP limit per day, post which the speeds will be reduced to 2 Mbps and there’s no FUP limit on after FUP speeds. The plan also provides a user with unlimited landline calling to any network within India, something that comes in extremely handy for several users.

Alongside the broadband plan, users will also get three mobile SIM card connections with interesting benefits. All the three mobile SIMs will offer unlimited free voice calling to any network within India, 1GB daily data with after FUP speeds of 80 Kbps and free Personalised Ringback Tone.

Additionally, BSNL is offering free online TV access to one mobile SIM connection. All these benefits are available at a price of Rs 1,199 per month. Even if a customer chooses all these plans individually, the price will be over Rs 2,000, so the BSNL Rs 1,199 is a steal deal right now for users in search of affordable combo broadband and mobile network plan.

JioFiber Broadband Plans to Start at Rs 700 and it May Not Worry BSNL Broadband at All

Yesterday, Reliance Jio unveiled its offerings under the JioFiber broadband service. The Mukesh Ambani-owned company will offer high-speed broadband plans to customers starting at Rs 700 and the speeds will begin from 100 Mbps. In contrast, BSNL is offering broadband plans even with 5 Mbps speeds to the customers and they start at just Rs 99. BSNL’s Rs 777 or Rs 749 Super Star 300 plan ships with 50 Mbps speeds till 300GB along with other benefits like Amazon Prime membership, Hotstar Premium subscription and so on.
